Overall I loved this intensive! It was amazing. Being in close contact with the company members was definitely my favorite thing. Being able to watch them in class and take their advice gave me an entire new perspective on not only how I dance, but also how I think about attacking or conserving my movements in a step. I am so grateful I was given this opportunity!!
Student from 2018 Twin Sky Intensive
I was welcomed each day in class by being pushed to work harder as well as acceptance of where my movement level stands. Each teaching artists had so many unique offerings that each day felt like a whole new world of ideas. Finally, despite the days being long they did not feel that way, it was such a fun program to be a part of!
C.R., reflecting on JSB's August 2022 Intensive
I most enjoyed having the privilege of working with such a great group of non-judgmental and passionate people.

Over the course of the rehearsals and performance, I realized that effective movement felt like a language I didn't know how to speak, and that the company dancers were completely fluent in. It highlighted my insecurities, but it also felt like it opened my eyes to how dance can serve as a language and a means of communication. I loved the experience overall, learned so much, and developed even more respect for the dancers.
Big Sky community member, reflecting on a 2019 workshop and performance experience with JSB
The JSB summer intensive was a lovely experience that helped me to ground myself in my body and my movement style! Every class set me up for success and the reflections from company members and teachers have impacted my dancing in more ways than one! It was an incredible experience to learn from so many wonderful artists and I am extremely grateful for the company, teachers, pianists and my fellow dancers for all of the special moments that have come from this intensive.

Eve's InProcess session will explore individual and ensemble improvisations. Dancers will learn and practice various prompts, skills, and motors toward confidently crafting work that relies (and is better for) its improvised nature.
Apart from her 15 seasons with JSB, Eve has collaborated with physical theater group Live Action Set, which is pioneering innovative immersive and interactive moving stories; and has twice served as co-director for the Blue Lake International Ballet Ensemble. She has been teaching various forms of dance for over a decade, and has performed or taught in France, Germany, Denmark, Canada, nationally in 17 states, and in 30+ Minnesota communities. Her choreographic work Any Offered None, developed as part of JSB's Ballet Works Project, was nominated for a 2016 MN Sage Award for Outstanding Performance. Eve also holds a B.A. in English from the University of Minnesota, where she also teaches the advanced ballet course.
Tuesday (July 2)
From Kerry:
During this workshop we will work with specific phrase work rooted in classical ballet and the organic/disciplined beauty of the form.
We will also incorporate improvisations based on the ideas within the phrases and where you would like to take them or where they will take you.
This will not be a technique class and all are welcome.
We might shapeshift….we might turn into animals…or goddesses…if we have time on our side.
Bring your pointe shoes if that is something that is available to you otherwise just bring yourself and we’ll see what happens.

Demetrius McClendon (who is also known as ImagineJoy) was born and raised in the south side of Chicago where they began dancing with street hip-hop at the age of 15. As someone that experienced many hardships early-on in life, dance became an anchor: a source of creative joy and expression; a way to make sense of self while navigating interlocking systems of domination which stifles creativity, expression, and connection. Embracing dance as a spiritual practice (and tool for political/social change), ImagineJoy is excited to co-create a space to explore movement that pulls from various forms of their dance training (including contemporary ballet, modern, jazz, voguing, etc.) and somatic practice. Their work seeks to answer an ongoing question: how do we stretch beyond what we think is possible to be/become the change?
Early Bird pricing activated! Enroll on or before Wednesday, June 26th, for $40-102.
