SmArts – School Performance Curriculum
SmArts is James Sewell Ballet’s interactive lecture-performance program that educates students about ballet and provides insight about how the basic partnership tools of life – communication, coordination, cooperation, and discipline – are applied to the art form of dance.
We offer annual performances in schools and free matinees for 6,000-10,000 students in the Twin Cities and Rochester.
When SmArts is presented in a theater, students experience a professional production, meet the artists, and learn how a ballet is created and enhanced through technical elements of sets, costumes, and lighting.
More than 156,000 students throughout Minnesota and the United States have participated in a SmArts experience.

In addition to its own SmArts curriculum, James Sewell Ballet participates with the
Minnesota Shubert Center in iTV sessions, educational dance programming that links artists and students in real-time throughout Minnesota via the internet.
