Spring Season: Titicut Follies: The Ballet - Click here to purchase tickets

March 31 – April 2, 2017
The Goodale Theater at The Cowlers Center, Minneapolis, MN

Inspired by Frederick Wiseman’s landmark documentary, having its 50th Anniversary this year, this new full length ballet is a collaboration brought about by The Center for Ballet and the Arts at New York University. Bringing Frederick Wiseman and James Sewell together, this is the first project to come out of the Center’s efforts to encourage new work that strengthens the relevancy of ballet in contemporary life. Composer Lenny Pickett is creating the original score for the piece with production design by Steven Rydberg. Wiseman’s documentary was shot in the Bridgewater Institute for the criminally insane and provided a controversial and candid perspective of the daily realities of mental illness, incarceration and our innate sense of individualism in any circumstance. As with the film, the ballet is organized around inmates and staff and an annual tradition at Bridgewater; its variety show “The Titicut Follies”. This new Ballet will preview in Minneapolis at the Cowles Center and premiere in NYC at the Skirball Theater.
