Fall Season

Guy Noir: The Ballet & Rib Cage

October 24 – November 2

The Goodale Theater at The Cowles Center

Guy Noir, Private Eye, leaps from the radio airwaves into the limelight in a collaboration with Garrison Keillor that puts dance in the noir with a colorful cast of mavericks and misfits and narration by Keillor himself.

The world premiere of Rib Cage continues our partnership with the Schubert Club bringing live music and dance to the stage. Celebrated soprano Carrie Henneman Shaw and composer Abbie Betinis join Sewell to explore where old meets new and tradition bends to innovation.

Ballet Works Project

February 6 –15

JSB TEK BOX at The Cowles Center

Our winter program serves as a choreographic laboratory designed to push and play with the ballet idiom — twisting, tweaking and turning it upside down to put the audience at the heart of the creative dance making process.

This year we are fortunate to have a number of guest choreographer joining us, with Manahattan based Joanna Kotze - named "Outstanding Emerging Choreographer" at the 2013 NYC Bessie Awards - leading the charge along with Houston based Jane Weiner of Hope Stone Dance and our partners in Grand Rapids, Co-Directors Amy Earnest and Lance Hardin from Reif Dance. JSB dancer Nic Lincoln rounds out the lineup for an invigorating evening of new work in the TEK BOX.

Spring Season

Silk Road, Dusty Realms, & Dessa

April 24 –May 3

The Goodale Theater at The Cowles Center

Developed as part of our summer Big Sky program and premiered at the Heinz Poll Festival in August, Silk Road is set at the crossroads of Eastern and Western music with music of the acclaimed cellist Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble.

Norbert de la Cruz III’s haunting and mysterious Dusty Realms, which originated on last year’s Ballet Works Project makes a move to the main stage.

Finally, Sewell teams up with rapper, singer, and spoken word artist Dessa with another premiere that rides the driving pulses in Dessa’s music and dives into her poignant and challenging verse.
